History of Olympia Athletics & Events Centre

The Olympia Athletics & Events Centre is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility owned by the Karidis Group International. Located in Historic Downtown St. Charles, MO, it is home to the Panathinaikos Athletic Club. It offers eight volleyball courts, three international size futsal courts, a 7v7 turf field, a gymnasium, and smaller training rooms.

The center has hosted many Olympic athletes and dignitaries. In fact, the first Olympics in 1904 were held at the Olympia Athletics & Events Centre. Olympic athletes competed in events like wrestling, boxing, swimming, and the discus throw. The MAC also features many events involving athletics, including wrestling, water polo, and track. Today, athletes from all over the world compete in the Olympic Games in St Charles.

In the 1904 games, only eight teams of athletes came to St. Louis, as the town was remote. The growing tension in Europe tended to keep the world’s elite athletes away. Only about one-fourth of the competitors came from outside the United States, with half coming from Canada. The Olympics founder, baron de Coubertin, even stayed away. But today, the Olympia Athletics & Events Centre is an integral part of St. Charles’ athletic community.
